Woodbine Cottage
We’d like to extend a warm welcome to Woodbine Cottage, furnished with your comfort in mind and equipped to make sure you enjoy every moment of your stay.
Let us show you aroundOnce through the front door you’ll find yourself in the comfortable dining room with its original open fireplace and soft sea-shades of blue on the walls. You’ll see our comfy, upholstered dining chairs have been
chosen to encourage you to linger longer over a glass of wine and an evening meal, or to tuck into a hearty breakfast, before launching yourselves into a day’s activities.
We’re great believers in getting the lighting right, even when it’s not switched on - well we would do, we’re in the electrical business - and as you’ll see, you can opt for bright or subdued, depending on time of day and
mood of the moment.
The cottage’s newly installed kitchen is completely contemporary with everything, including the softly rounded work surfaces, tiling and lighting chosen to not only look good and make any cooking pleasurable and easy, but at the same time maintaining the period feel of the cottage. You’ll find your fridge stocked with immediate essentials such as milk and of course, tea and coffee on hand for that drink we all hanker for after a drive.
The cosy living room leads off the kitchen, inviting you to kick off your shoes, sink into a comfortably cushioned sofa or armchair, put your feet up, watch tv, read a good book or simply chill out. Of course, depending on the time of year, if it’s not just you that’s chilling – there’s a woodburning stove to warm you up.
The cottage’s downstairs bathroom has been completely renovated and we’ve stuck with the colour theme running throughout. Lie back and soak in the traditional Victorian style claw footed bath or utilise the powerful shower to deal with any stray grains of sand that may be loitering.
The back door opens on to an extremely long, mature garden with a raised decking area for enjoying a barbecue. The garden provides a perfect space for children and pets to race up and down and work off any excess energy. Fully enclosed, it means neither kids nor dogs can go walkabout, so you can sit back relax with a cool drink and watch them tire themselves out, always an advantage if bedtime is in the offing
"Woodbine cottage is perfect for exploring the hidden gem Mersea island is. A fantastic place filled with friendly people and plenty to do. The cottage itself is modern but comfortable. The rooms are tastefully decorated with everything you might need for your holiday. We, especially enjoyed the garden, large enough for the kids to run around while we enjoyed a relaxing bbq. We will definitely be returning thanks to Helen & Jono for being such welcoming hosts."

"We stayed at Woodbine cottage for a weekend in September and absolutely loved it! Helen is a great host providing easy directions as well as accommodating a slightly later check-out on the Sunday. The cottage is really nice and clean and benefits from a brand new kitchen and bathroom. The back garden is great and well equipped with seating, table and outdoor lights. The location is perfect within a short walk of shops, restaurants and the beach. The cottage has lots of atmosphere and we just felt at home from the moment we arrived. Hopefully we’ll be able to stay in this cosy cottage again!"
